How to Claim a Kerala Lottery Prize

Won a Kerala lottery prize? Here's exactly how to claim it, based on the rules of the Kerala State Lotteries Department.

Step 1 — Verify your win

First, confirm the winning ticket number in the official Kerala Gazette. Do not rely solely on any unofficial source (including this website). The Gazette is published on the Kerala State Lotteries website on the same day as the draw, usually by 4:30 PM IST.

Step 2 — Preserve your ticket

Sign the back of the winning ticket immediately. Do not laminate it. Keep it safe — a damaged or illegible ticket may be rejected.

Step 3 — Prizes up to ₹5,000

For prizes of ₹5,000 or less, you can claim directly from any authorised Kerala State Lottery agent or retailer. Show your winning ticket and photo ID.

Step 4 — Prizes above ₹5,000

For larger prizes, you must claim at the Directorate of State Lotteries in Thiruvananthapuram (or at district lottery offices) within 30 days of the draw date. Bring:

Step 5 — Tax deduction

Under Indian tax law, 30% TDS (plus surcharge and cess) is deducted at source for prizes above ₹10,000. For a ₹1 Crore prize, expect to receive approximately ₹70 Lakh after deductions.

Step 6 — Claim deadline

You have 30 days from the draw date to submit your claim. After 30 days, unclaimed prize money is forfeited to the Kerala State Lotteries Department.

⚠ Beware of scams

The Kerala State Lotteries Department will never ask you to pay any fee, deposit, or processing charge upfront to release your prize. Any message or call demanding payment to claim a lottery prize is a scam. Report scams to the Kerala Police cyber-crime unit.
